48GB DDR5 SO-DIMMs Finally Show Up — Here’s Where to Buy
24GB or 48GB SO-DIMM memory is nearly impossible to find in the current DDR5 market, and no manufacturer blatantly advertises or sells kits with these new memory capacities. However, one memory manufacturer sells his 48GB SO-DIMM DDR5 memory kit, which you can buy now.
Based on previous reports, William LambMashkin are selling Three 96GB Redline SO-DIMM DDR5 memory kits with dual 48GB SO-DIMMs are for sale on eBay.Each of these kits comes in 4800MHz, 5200MHz and 5600MHz versions with a starting price of $325 (opens in new tab).
These kits aren’t cheap, but they are available and can be built into laptops or devices that support 48GB DDR5 SO-DIMMs. Additionally, the 48GB module is more flexible than his traditional 32GB module, offering up to 96GB capacity with just two modules and a whopping 192GB with four modules.
With SO-DIMMs, laptops and compact devices can take advantage of these new memory capacities that are mostly restricted to the DDR5 memory market. The 24GB and 48GB kits were originally announced in January of this year as new memory capacities for the consumer DDR5 segment. The desktop market has already taken to heart with these new capacitors, with Corsair and G.SKill launching several high-performance 24GB and 48GB DDR5 desktop kits a few months ago.
But the same cannot be said for the mobile memory market. Mushkin is currently the only active seller of 48GB SO-DIMMs that can be found on the internet, and he’s the only other memory manufacturer to mention 24GB and 48GB modules is Crucial.
I hope memory manufacturers see the potential of 24GB and 48GB SO-DIMM modules and produce more kits soon. But at least if you buy Mushkin’s 96GB kit now, he can now benefit from 96GB of memory compared to his traditional 64GB limit of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory.
