Alleged AMD Radeon RX 7900 Reference Design Pictured

The first clear photos of AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards may have been shared online.Usually trustworthy Twitter-based leakers HXL Uploaded images with credits to ‘QQ’, a Chinese social media portal and instant messaging platform owned by Tencent. The first look at one of AMD’s upcoming top-end RDNA3 chiplet-based desktop graphics cards is exciting, but at best add a little salt to the engineering sample design.

The first image shared above shows the next-generation Radeon on top of what appears to be AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT reference design. We can quickly see that the new card, which is probably either the RX 7900 XT or the XTX, is only slightly larger than its previous generation counterparts, although it could be cooler due to the higher TDP. , it is practically impossible to draw that conclusion from such an image.

Moving on to a top-down image comparison where the new Radeon RX 7000 graphics card is allegedly underneath the two in the photo, there are some interesting bits to digest if these images are real. First, the new card (red stripe) is powered by two 8-pin power connectors. It doesn’t change when it’s not necessary. This indicates that rumors of a TDP of around 350W may not be far away. The maximum power consumption for such a configuration is 150W per 8-pin connector and 75W (375W) via the PCIe socket. Manufacturers want to be safely below this value. Additionally, the RDNA 3’s claimed power efficiency means you don’t have to clutter your design with an 8-pin port or migrate to the cumbersome 16-pin solution that Nvidia and partners have moved to with his GeForce RTX 4090.
