Alleged RTX 4080 Time Spy and Blender Benchmarks Emerge
The next Ada Lovelace graphics card Nvidia will offer is the GeForce RTX 4080. Over the past few hours, there have been several leaks of interesting performance metrics featuring this model, usually from trusted sources. Leaked benchmark scores show the RTX 4080 to be 25% to 37% slower than the formidable RTX 4090. These results should be taken with a pinch of salt, but they’re worth a closer look.
twitter user @Zed_Wang The published screenshots were apparently taken from a 3DMark benchmark run. The 3DMark benchmark runs a fixed pass within UL Benchmark’s tuned graphics engine, thus providing an indicative game performance score. Consider and compare both the Time Spy DX12 benchmark and the Time Spy Extreme 4K DX12 benchmark scores. In these comparisons, the RTX 4090 appears to be 25% and 37% faster than the 4080 respectively. If accurate, these results show that the RTX 4090’s advantage over the RTX 4080 is most pronounced in 4K and higher resolution gaming environments.
For another perspective on the RTX 4080’s performance, see our experienced leaker @Tam Apisak I have shared what is supposed to be the running score of the Blender benchmark. Blender is a free and open source 3D modeling application, so a GPU can help in this situation to speed up scene previews and rendered stills and animations. Additionally, support for GPU ray tracing hardware helps weight the relative potency of this aspect of the GPU. According to Blender data, the upcoming RTX 4080 will be around 28% slower than his flagship RTX 4090.
