AMD Pushes Flawed RX 7600 Comparison to Trash RTX 3060 8GB

AMD’s latest Radeon RX 7600 came just short of making our list of the best graphics cards. Dropping the price to bring him closer to the RX 6650 XT would help. So when asked by a Twitter user to compare the Radeon RX 7600 to its rivals, AMD’s Senior Director of Marketing for Gaming Sasa Marinkovic said: tweeted the chart The Radeon RX 7600 dominates the GeForce RTX 3060 here. However, the cheeky comparison was to his GeForce RTX 3060 8GB, a cut-down version of the original, rather than his much more common GeForce RTX 3060 (12GB).

According to Marinkovic’s graph, the Radeon RX 7600 delivers on average up to 34% faster performance than the GeForce RTX 3060 8GB at 1080p (1920×1080) and maximum settings. The Radeon RX 7600 was up to 61% in some titles, including: Borderlands 3. I don’t think AMD’s results are inaccurate, but the chipmaker thinks he should be doing comparisons to the 12GB RTX 3060 and not the faulty version that no sane person would buy.

In addition to the memory capacity difference (8GB vs. 12GB), the GeForce RTX 3060 8GB has a narrow memory interface. Nvidia reduced the original 192-bit bus to 128-bit on the 8GB model, resulting in a significant drop in memory bandwidth. A 33% reduction in bandwidth on the GeForce RTX 3060 8GB due to the reduced memory interface.

The GeForce RTX 3060 8GB was essentially a stealth release similar to the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB, but a less desirable graphics card. We didn’t get a chance to get a GeForce RTX 3060 8GB in our lab for testing, but multiple publications confirm that it’s about 15% slower than his regular GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB of memory. I’m here.

So the GeForce RTX 3060 8GB is roughly halfway between a 12GB card and a GeForce RTX 3050. It’s not a problem per se. The real killer is that the 3060 8GB launched at the same price as his 12GB card. It’s about $20 cheaper these days, but it’s still not a popular card.of RTX 3060 12GB starting at $279, RTX 3060 8GB $259and RTX 3050 $219.

The Radeon RX 7600 is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060, but only in rasterization performance. Nvidia still has the edge in ray tracing performance. According to our benchmarks, the Radeon RX 7600 delivers 17% higher rasterization performance than the GeForce RTX 3060 at 1080p on Ultra settings. However, the Radeon RX 7600 has up to 22% slower ray tracing performance. The only reason AMD used his GeForce RTX 3060 8GB for comparison was to make the Radeon RX 7600 look better. Logically, the 34% difference looks much more convincing than the 17% difference.

It’s also worth pointing out that AMD doesn’t care about DLSS performance. FSR 2.0 offers similar performance gains for AMD GPUs in many cases, although we have seen many cases (most recently Diablo IV and Lord of the rings: Gollum) where FSR 2.0 produces a much blurrier image than DLSS. DLSS support is also more widespread than FSR 2.0 support.

There were many questions about the Radeon RX 7600 before the graphics card’s launch. Many users were concerned whether the Radeon RX 7600 could offer a worthwhile performance boost over his existing Radeon RX 6650 XT. Navi 33-based graphics cards were more expensive and had similar power consumption, but they outperformed previous generation graphics cards by a small margin. This explains why AMD has not posted data comparing the Radeon RX 7600 and the Radeon RX 6650 XT.

The Radeon RX 6650 XT is the reason why the Radeon RX 7600 is not among the best graphics cards. The Radeon RX 7600 launched at $269 and the custom Radeon RX 6650 XT model sells for as low as $229, justifying the $40 difference when the Radeon RX 7600 offers a minimal performance boost. is difficult to do. AV1 encoding is supported, but it’s not a particularly attractive package.

As we said in our review, the RX 7600 isn’t a terrible graphics card by any means, but it does cost more than similarly performing AMD GPUs already available. As long as RX 6600 class GPU supply and prices dominate the value graphics card sector, the 7600 will struggle to attract potential buyers.
