AMD Zen 5 Threadripper 8000 ‘Shimada Peak’ CPUs Rumored for 2025
AMD keeps pedaling. Digi Times I will report today. Perhaps the biggest concern for PC DIY enthusiasts will be the new Ryzen 8000 Granite Ridge processors which are purported to offer Zen 5 processor cores in late 2024. However, AMD doesn’t plan to transition desktop and mobile chips to his TSMC process, which is more advanced than his 4nm, until 2026. , according to industry insider information.
Embedded above you can see the AMD processor roadmap put together by Twitter. @harukaze5719 Using data from DigiTimes and some additional seasoning from YouTubers MLID.
AMD is working from the top and plans to refresh its server offerings with a new line of Epyc processors in 2025. Insiders have indicated that this could be the first AMD chip fabbed at his 3nm. There are no other 3nm chips of his on this roadmap.
If this roadmap is accurate, HEDT users can also enjoy an update when the Shimada Peak Threadripper processor debuts in 2025. It is not certain if these powerful high core count chips will use his TSMC’s 4nm or 6nm process but it could be based on the Zen 5 architecture. In the meantime, we are still waiting for the Storm Peak Threadripper CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture due in Q3 of this year.
Luckily for mainstream desktop PC users, there isn’t much of a gap until there’s a major update to their platform of choice. According to this roadmap extracted from what DigiTimes sources said, Ryzen 8000 Granite Ridge processors are coming in his 2024 year. Specifically, DigiTimes says Granite Ridge will be released “late 2024.” This could give AMD desktop users their first taste of the Zen 5 architecture, but it’s still unclear which of his TSMC process nodes (4nm and/or 6nm) to consider.
Roadmaps can get very busy within the mobile space. This reflects the importance of providing options that appeal to the widest possible public. Even desktop users may admit that the Ryzen 7000 mobile APUs arriving now are very exciting. Some combine the charm of Zen 4 CPU cores and RDNA 3 GPU cores into a portable friendly TDP. If you’re considering a new laptop, Ryzen 8000 Mobile expect AMD to have his chip in mind.
In 2024, the Dragon Range and Phoenix Point Ryzen 7000 mobile chips will be replaced by an even larger family of targeted Ryzen 8000 APUs, mostly moving to the latest Zen 5 CPU cores. After that, by 2025, all AMD mobile APU options will be Zen 5 based. Sadly, the roadmap doesn’t say which GPU architecture will be used. This is an essential consideration for mobile platforms with limited upgrade options.
Finally, add a little salt to reports like this that are based on industry leaks and rumors.
