AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X Zen 4 CPU Reportedly Peaks At 5.85 GHz

AMD’s looming Zen 4 processors are sure to vie for a spot on our list of best CPUs. The chipmaker will officially unveil the Ryzen 7000 (Raphael) chips on his August 29th. However, a new rumor is that his flagship Ryzen 7 7950X could boost up to 5.85 GHz.

Previous leaks have reported that the Ryzen 9 7950X will check in with a 5.7 GHz boost clock. however, Weibo user (opens in new tab) claims a higher Fmax (maximum frequency limit) for the Zen 4 part with 16 cores. As a result, it looks like the Ryzen 9 7950X can boost up to 5.85 GHz. If the rumors are correct, the Ryzen 9 7950X will sit on top of Intel’s Core i9-13900K (Raptor Lake) chip which has appeared with his clock boosting to 5.8 GHz.

Fmax is the maximum frequency programmed into the Ryzen processor. For example, AMD advertises the Ryzen 9 5950X with a 4.9 GHz boost clock speed. Nevertheless, depending on workload and cooling, Zen 3 peaks at 5.05 GHz. So the Ryzen 9 7950X could hit 6 GHz with manual overclocking and a proper cooler.

A Weibo user posted a CPU-Z screenshot of the Ryzen 9 7950X. It looks like the leaker already has a retail sample of the chip as CPU-Z didn’t pick up the Zen 4 part as his engineering sample. CPU-Z is still not detecting Zen 4 processors correctly. This is because the details are not provided in the report.
