Ethereum Layer 2 solution Arbitrum will airdrop 112.8 million ARB tokens to 137 Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) on the ecosystem on March 23rd.

Arbitrum says airdrops are not retroactive grants

On Twitter on March 21st threadArbitrum said the airdrop is not a retroactive grant. Instead, it was a way to allow sub-communities on the Layer 2 network to localize their governance decisions.

Arbitrum added that the airdrop will only be distributed to projects with DAO and community treasury. However, we have made an exception for the Protocol Guild, the collective body of Ethereum core developers and contributors.

Arbitrum said it considered factors such as the project’s rollout date, in addition to whether the project is multi-chain or native to its ecosystem. Other factors considered include trading volume, total value of assets locked in the project, and native liquidity moved into the ecosystem.

It added:

“The hope and intention is that by distributing it to the Arbitrum DAO, we can spread the power of governance more broadly among users rather than just assigning it to those who are eligible for the airdrop.”
