Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S Exists, Announcement Delayed Due to ‘Technical Issues’

Baldur’s Gate 3 finally got its release date yesterday, but fans were quick to notice that Xbox wasn’t on developer Larian Studios’ launch plans.

In a statement to IGN, Larian Studios clarified the situation: “We are planning to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce NOW and PS5.” An Xbox version is in development, but Larian Studios has struggled to get split-screen co-op working on the Xbox Series X|S, delaying an official announcement.

See the full statement below. Larian Studios explains that they have no exclusivity to withhold the Xbox version.

“Following yesterday’s PS5 and release date announcements, we have clarified that we plan to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5. We have no exclusive rights on what we can offer, and will announce support for additional platforms when ready.

There are many different interpretations of what that means, so I wanted to clarify further. The Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in development for some time. We ran into some technical issues during the development of the Xbox port, so we weren’t able to announce with 100% confidence until we were sure we had found the right solution. Must work to the same standards on both Xbox Series X and S. This is a shipping requirement.

There is no platform exclusivity that would prevent us from releasing BG3 on the Xbox date and time, if technically possible. When we announce future platforms, we want each version to live up to our standards and expectations. ”

This week’s State of Play’s Baldur’s Gate 3 trailer showed off shots of character classes, split-screen multiplayer, and revealed his role as JK Simmons’ antagonist General Keselic Som. I’ve also seen the deluxe and collector’s editions of the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited sequel to BioWare’s classic ’90s RPG, first published in 2019. The franchise is on good terms with his Larian Studios, best known for creating the incredible Divinity: Original Sin franchise.

This story has been updated to clarify that the Xbox version has yet to be announced.
