Bitcoin addresses take an extreme nose dive

quick take

  • With the rise of the BRC-20 token, bitcoin has seen record numbers of transactions, but addresses show a negative correlation.
  • A new active address is now approaching 365-DMA. This shows that participants are joining the network and has been going on for the better part of the last 6 months as it topped 365 DMAs.
  • New addresses are defined by the number of unique addresses encountered for the first time in native coin transactions within the network.
  • Active addresses are defined as the number of unique addresses that were active on the network as senders or receivers, but only addresses that were active in successful transactions are counted.
  • Active addresses are currently at 856,000, the lowest as of October 2021, but new addresses are around 408,000, the lowest ever recorded.
