CD Projekt Red Announces a Remake of The Witcher in Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt Red, along with developer Fool’s Theory, have announced a remake of The Witcher in Unreal Engine 5.

It’s one of five new games the company announced earlier this month, formerly codenamed Canis Majoris. It’s a true remake, “rebuilt from the ground up” in Unreal Engine 5 and is in early development, the company says.

As part of the announcement, the company warned:

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, CD Projekt Red. Remaking the game so that it can be experienced feels just as big, if not bigger.” Post an announcement.

“Working with Fool’s Theory on this project is as exciting as it is for people who have worked with The Witcher games before. knows how to make incredibly ambitious games, and it will be a while before I’m ready to share more about and from the game. I know it will be worth the wait.”

Canis Majoris is one of the most interesting announcements in CD Projekt’s upcoming slate, and the first time developers have collaborated with a third-party developer. Fans were very intrigued to find out which developer it was, but hadn’t seen the Fool’s Theory as speculation until now.

Founded in 2015 and dubbed ‘A Collective of AAA Veterans’, the Polish studio has contributed to projects like Baldur’s Gate III, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and Outriders. Fool’s Theory is also working on a project codenamed Vitriol, a new IP created in collaboration with 11-Bit Studios (Frostpunk, This War of Mine).

Released in 2007, The Witcher was CD Projekt Red’s debut game, and while it wasn’t as polished as its successor, it now captures the vast amount of lore, tone, and depth that define a groundbreaking RPG series. I have set the system. At the time, he gave it an 8.5, saying, “It’s definitely a game you’ll never forget, even after all these years.” If you’re wondering why the remake was announced today, it’s because it’s his 15th anniversary since the original’s release.
