On Coinbase’s layer 2 network Base May 24th It announced the criteria it plans to meet before proceeding with the mainnet launch.

Mainnet requirements

Base said it already meets two criteria. One is that they have completed their first hard fork, Regolith, on the testnet and completed an infrastructure review with the OP Labs team.

The project is currently waiting for Optimism to successfully complete an upgrade in June called Bedrock. Base will also complete internal and external audits to demonstrate testnet stability before entering the mainnet phase.

Base has been in the testnet phase since February. Although they have not announced a specific mainnet launch date, other reports indicate that the mainnet is expected to go live by the end of 2023.

Base has stressed that it has “no plans to issue network tokens,” with many community members complaining about airdrops and lack of investment opportunities. However, Base has announced a commemorative NFT that can be minted by community members.

interest in the base

Shortly after Mainnet Genesis, the project will enter the Genesis Window, with a focus on helping developers deploy apps, Base said.

The project names some interesting projects built on the platform, including the community currency OAK, the NFT card game Parallel, the development toolkit Thirdweb, and the restaurant loyalty program Blackbird.

However, the projects nominated by Coinbase are not necessarily the most notable, with several major DeFi projects showing early interest in the platform.

Aave Governance Leader began gauging interest in bringing Aave to Base on May 22nd, and the proposal attracted early interest from community members. Uniswap governance members also proposed the introduction of Uniswap on May 17th.
