Core i7-13700K, i5-13600K Show Surprising Minimum FPS Gains in New Benchmarks
According to the new video by the content creator above Bilibili, Intel’s Raptor Lake architecture makes the game look much better than its predecessor, Alder Lake, but it’s not the way you might think. In the video, several Raptor Lake engineering samples were benchmarked in numerous video game benchmarks and compared to Alder Lake’s predecessor. For beginners, minimum frame rate statistics are some of the most important performance metrics to pay attention to. The minimum frame rate graph shows the worst frame rate in the game or scene being benchmarked.
Improving this result does not look good on paper. The maximum or average FPS will never be (or at least) high. However, improving the minimum value can play a major role in improving the stability of game performance. Improving performance in this area will reduce game frame rate fluctuations for a smoother gaming experience.

In this series of benchmarks, several configurations were tested, including a Core i7-13700K with a maximum turbo of 5.3GHz, a Core i5-13600K with a maximum turbo of 5.1GHz, a Core i7-12700KF and a Core i5 12600K. In addition, each chip is paired with DDR4 and DDR5 memory and measured the difference between the two architectures in terms of memory performance. However, memory timing is not listed, so you will get memory-specific results with some salt. For GPUs, GeForce RTX 3090 Ti was used for all tests.
thanks to @ harukaze5719, We took 10 game worth of benchmark data from Bilibili video (not including 3DMark) and compressed all the data into 4 graphs for 13700K and 13600K using DDR4 and DDR5 graphs.
Looking first at the DDR5 13700K graph, the Raptor Lake chip shows a very mediocre performance improvement compared to 12700KF at average and maximum frame rates, averaging + 2% to +7 at 1080P, 1440P, and 4K. %is. The only exception is a 9.7% performance improvement at up to 1080P.
However, the minimum FPS graph shows a different story, with 1080P and 4k results showing a performance improvement of over 10% at 113% and 111%, respectively. These gains are significantly higher than the average and maximum results.
The results for the Core i5-13600K show similar behavior, with significantly higher minimum frame rate improvements at 4K and 1440P when compared to the older 12600K. This is especially true for 4k minimum results.
However, 1080P results are very different from 13700K results, with a difference of only 2% across the minimum, average, and maximum frame rate data. Still, the minimum frame rate improvement remains the highest of all three.
The memory results between both Raptor Lake and Alder Lake CPUs are not very exciting and most of the results are within the margin of error. The only exception to this is the result of 1440P, which showed a 5% performance improvement.

Undoubtedly, the most interesting results are benchmarks for individual games. Most games show a negligible increase (if any) among all four chips, but for titles that do so, the increase in Raptor Lake parts is huge.
PUBG, Naraka, Apex Legends, and Red Dead Redemption 2 add 25% to 44% minimum frame rate (at various resolutions, both minimum FPS and maximum FPS, prioritizing 13700K compared to 12700KF) Gain was seen) But most are minimal.
The results for the 13600K were very similar, but the game choices were different. The chip gained 120% to 135% additional performance with PUBG, Naraka, Apex Legends, Monster Hunter: Rise, Far Cry 6, and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
It’s unclear at this point why the Raptor Lake part works well with performance statistics involving minimum frame rates, but it’s not a bad place for Intel’s future platforms. The performance bias for this metric may be related to something larger. Or a faster L2 and L3 cache, but at this point it’s just a guess.
Whatever the real reason, Raptor Lake, like Alder Lake, is becoming a great gaming CPU architecture. These samples operate at reasonably low clocks in architectures rumored to be close to the 6GHz boost frequency. Therefore, it is likely that you will get more performance with the full retail model.
