Corsair MP600 Pro XT PCIe 4.0 SSD Expands to 8TB Capacity
Corsair has quietly added an 8TB SSD model to its MP600 Pro XT family of premium PCIe 4.0 drives and has launched sales in Europe. Perhaps months before the company starts selling his next-generation MP700 SSD with PCIe 5.0 interface. The new drive offers large capacities, but slightly lower performance when compared to his other SSDs in this family.
Corsair’s MP600 Pro XT M.2-2280 drive is the company’s flagship storage product based on Phison’s PS5018-E18 controller and Micron’s 176-layer 3D TLC NAND memory. So far, Corsair has offered his MP600 Pro XT drives in his 1TB, 2TB and 4TB configurations, but this week the German retailer Proshop.de (opens in new tab) reported that they are now offering 8 TB versions of these devices. ComputerBase.de (opens in new tab).
Corsair’s new 8TB MP600 Pro XT SSD delivers up to 7,100 MB/s sequential read speeds, up to 6,100 MB/s sequential write speeds, and 1.2M/95M random read/write IOPS (other drives in the lineup below). The highest capacity SSDs are typically slightly slower than mid-range capacity configurations, but Corsair’s MP600 Pro XT 8TB is one of the best SSDs available with a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface.

Corsair’s MP600 Pro XT 8TB SSD doesn’t come cheap. This retailer sells these 8TB drives for €1,399.90 ($1,158 without VAT). That’s slightly more than the price of two MP600 Pro XT 4TB devices. Meanwhile, Corsair’s suggested US price for his 8TB drive is unknown as it’s not available this side of the pond.
Enthusiasts who already have a machine with an M.2 slot that supports PCIe 5.0 x4 or are waiting for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series or Intel’s 13th Gen Core ‘Raptor Lake’ platform with PCIe Gen5 support For homes, the dilemma is whether to buy. Buy a high-capacity PCIe Gen4 SSD now or wait for upcoming drives with PCIe 5.0 interface. Unfortunately, there’s no right answer to this question, as we don’t know exactly when Corsair or any other vendor will release his PCIe Gen5 drives, especially those that aren’t constrained to 10GBps read speeds.
