Dead Island 2’s Gore System Cuts Through Flesh, Organs, and Bones With Procedural Precision

Dambuster Studios, developers of Dead Island 2, have created a bespoke gore system for their upcoming Zombie Slaying sequel. This is he one of the most detailed systems in gaming history.

In a conversation with IGN, Dead Island 2 Game Director David Stenton said: “It stands for Perfect Location Extraction System for Humanoids.”

“[This system] Players can slice, dice, chop, dismember, melt and bludgeon zombies in all sorts of spectacular and stylish ways,” he continued. “And it’s all completely procedural as well.”

The new trailer shows off a strong selection of brutal kills, but Stenton has a lot of enthusiasm for how detailed the FLESH system recreates the burning flesh.

“One of the most fun things you can do in a game is melt zombies,” he said. “You can see [the flames] It burns through clothing and all soft tissue, going through organs all the way down to bones. ”
