Deathloop Has Been Officially Confirmed by Arkane to be Part of the Dishonored Universe

Arkane Studios has officially confirmed that Deathloop will take place in the cosmic future first built in the Dishonored game.

This confirmation was provided by Dinga Bakaba, director of Deathloop and studio director of Arkane Lyon. Official Xbox Podcast Arkane Austin with Studio Director Harvey Smith.

Xbox’s Jeff Rubenstein asked Bakaba about rumors and hints that Deathloop is connected to this larger universe. Rubenstein said he didn’t need to confirm anything, but Bakaba went above and beyond to not only confirm this to be true, but also discuss the thought process behind doing so.

“Not everyone saw the same thing,” Bakababa said of Deathloop. Didn’t see it, in fact we assumed death loops would happen in the future [Dishonored 2’s standalone expansion] death of an outsider. “

Bakaba said the team didn’t want to face this connection too overtly, as they wanted Deathloop to have its own story and identity, but it was about what the game was used to explore. I didn’t mean it couldn’t be done. Occurs after the Death of the Outsider event.

“When we were making Deathloop, we said, [this story] may be one of the things that can happen after [Death of the Outsider.] So there’s a certain timeline to link it to, and there’s actually a lot of clues in the game,” said Bakababa. It’s a lot of little things, some things that have always been under people’s noses, but people just get it.”

One of these references can be seen in a shotgun known as the Heritage Rifle. This weapon has a logo on the side that wasn’t clearly visible until the recent Goldenloop update added “idle breaks where characters play with guns.” The logo is now identifiable as Dishonored’s Dunwall Tower.

As Bakababa put it, these threads are “this little scavenger hunt within a scavenger hunt,” or like a deathloop, waiting to be discovered if the player is paying enough attention.

“We tried to see everything as evolution, but every time they mentioned the past, we were either vague or misrepresenting the name in a natural way,” Bakababa said. Like, they talk about the homeland not about Tivia, but you can definitely figure it all out if you know…and yes, it makes sense. to make it meaningful.”

Without knowing all of these larger universe references, we still gave Deathloop a 10/10 rare. The idea is elegantly implemented, and its system is easy to navigate, learn, and ultimately master. For the developers of games like Arkane, Deathloop is like no other. It’s a game.”
