I’m what you call a casual gamer. I enjoy playing video games, but I don’t always have time to dive into a giant open-world RPG. This is why cozy games like Animal Crossing and Disney Dreamlight Valley have always fascinated me. These are titles you can play whenever you want and enjoy every second. Such a stress-free game has a deep comfort that always calls me.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of my favorite games when it was first released. The ability to create your own island and slowly complete tasks at a leisurely pace was very satisfying. It only took a month. Now that Disney Dreamlight Valley has completely caught my attention, I can’t help but wonder how Disney’s new life sim has improved on the Animal Crossing model.
Similarities between Animal Crossing and Disney Dreamlight Valley
I can’t help but recognize the similarities between Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Disney Dreamlight Valley. Both games quickly drop you into some sort of depraved paradise and work you to fix it. Mining, fishing, gathering, crafting, gardening, etc., you are free to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Each of these games also allows you to fully customize both your home and the environment you live in.
Beyond gameplay elements, some character structures are also similar. Disney Dreamlight Valley basically does the same thing to his Scrooge McDuck. The similarities between the two games are strong enough, but it’s also where Dreamlight Valley differs in its approach to the genre.
Characters are the heart of Dreamlight Valley
All Verified Disney Dreamlight Valley Characters
The biggest difference between Disney Drealight Valley and Animal Crossing, at least for me, is the focus on characters. Animal Crossing offers some crossovers for his character from previous games, but focuses more on growing the island than interacting with villagers. In Disney Dreamlight Valley, the core of the game is the character his quest.
It’s no surprise that the main attraction of Disney games is the Disney characters you interact with.Conversations with Mickey, Goofy, Donald Duck, and even Ursula are some of the best parts of this game. It’s a nostalgic deep dive worth playing and the script really captures the essence of the classic Disney characters you’ll meet. But I’m doing it to help my Disney pals move the story forward, so it’s not too much of a hassle.
The connection with these classic characters is what keeps me coming back to Dreamlight Valley over and over again, and the knowledge that there are even more to come makes me excited about the game’s future.
Cooking is an integral aspect of friendship
Another key difference between the Animal Crossing and Dreamlight Valley launches is how much Disney has incorporated cooking into the game. In Animal Crossing, the feature came his late 2021 and was more of an add-on to gameplay rather than an integral part. Coming up with meal recipes and dishes is a core element of Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s directly related to gathering resources, completing quests, and even maintaining one’s own energy.
The cooking system is simple and fun, with all the recipes that require the actual ingredients needed to make. You can even get a great introduction to cooking by completing Remy’s quest and learning how to make ratatouille.
Disney’s Dreamlight Valley Roadmap is Exciting
Disney Dreamlight Valley is still in early access and there are quite a few bugs to work out in the system. That said, the game is off to a strong start and will only gain popularity when he becomes free-to-play in 2023. The fact that we have already confirmed the Disney Dreamlight Valley roadmap update is exciting to keep playing. The Scar’s Kingdom Update, published in mid-October, proved that Disney brings it with each of these subsequent content releases.
One of the biggest reasons I stopped playing Animal Crossing is the new Horizon. Because there was a lack of new content. By the time the big 2.0 update arrives in 2021, I’ve already been too far away from the game to come back. The fact that Disney already plans to introduce big character updates to the game is a big plus for me, and my personal Dream Light will likely continue to invest in his Valley.
