ESA Head Blames E3 Cancellation on Wider Industry Challenges, Won’t Say If Event Will Return

Following today’s IGN report that E3 has officially been canceled, GamesIndustry.biz Posted an interview In an interview with ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis, he asked what went wrong with the show and whether the show will return in the future.

When asked what went wrong at this year’s exhibition, Pierre-Louis pointed to a larger industry challenge that proved to be “too big to overcome.”

“Firstly, several companies have reported that their game development timelines have changed since the start of the COVID pandemic. We’re reassessing how we invest in marketing events.Third, companies are starting to experiment, and we’ll show you how to find the right balance between in-person events and digital marketing opportunities.”

Later in the interview, Pierre-Louis asked whether ESA members had lost interest in the event, what it would be like if E3 were continued, and how E3 needs three big platform holders to have any chance of success. I was asked if E3 would come back. Pierre-Louis didn’t provide a direct answer to any of these questions, but seemed to deny that communication was an issue when setting up E3 2023 (IGN source said it was a recurring problem). He confirmed firsthand that E3’s cancellation will not affect his ESA advocacy for the gaming industry.

The ESA today announced the cancellation of E3 2023 to its members, stating that the 2023 version of the event “simply garners the sustained interest necessary to run it in a way that demonstrates the event’s scale, strength and impact. I didn’t,” he said. Industry,” but no word on whether the event will resume. A press release sent to the media following our report stated that ReedPop and ESA would continue to work together for “future E3 events.”

This is a series of what were once the biggest events in gaming, following cancellations during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, another in 2022 (divided by a quieter digital event in 2021). The latest in cancellations.
