What is Face Off?

As the name suggests, Face-Off pits two things against each other to decide which one is better. In this case, we’re voting to determine which AI character is the best from movies, TV, and games. You can watch specific characters multiple times, so you can continue to vote for your favorites to ensure they rank above others. The team pre-selected 102 of the biggest AI characters. These are randomly paired and tracked each time you pick a winner.

How will the winner be determined?

At the close of voting on April 27th, we will tally the total number of “wins and losses” for each character to create a ranked list based on the choices that will be announced on April 28th. If a “Winner” title is awarded and there is a tie in the number of “Winners”, the character with the fewest “Losers” will take the top spot. Keep voting for your favorite characters and the more likely you are to rank high on the list. You can vote as many times as you like until the faceoff ends.

How can I be sure I clicked all?

It’s hard to know when you’ve seen all of the AI characters as they are all randomly matched and the matchup potential is so high. Playing until you’ve voted for all your favorites or keeping certain characters out of the winner’s circle are the different options available in the showdown. Determining a winner in all of these matchups ensures that your favorite her AI character pick has a fighting chance to reach the top of the list.

What AI characters are included?

The list of the best AI characters included in this face-off was determined by the IGN staff, and we tried to include as many characters from movies, TV shows, and video games as possible. We know the line between AI and standard robots is thin, but we needed to include our more advanced robot friends who deserve to be as loved as we are. I decided that this meant characters or programs that seemed to think for themselves in some way, indicating that they were more than just a pile of parts or a machine with one simple function.
