GeForce RTX 3060 Seemingly Gets Faster GDDR6X Memory
The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti may not be the only Ampere graphics card to get a GDDR6X memory upgrade.Slovak retailer DT Digital (via momomo_us (opens in new tab)) listed an unannounced GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card with GDDR6X memory.
Similar to what happened with the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X, the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X will be the third iteration of the GeForce RTX 3060. The original model debuted last year with the GA106 die. A second variant hit the market a few months later with the same specs but a larger GA104 die. Nvidia has not announced his GDDR6X model so it remains a mystery whether it will use the GA106 or his GA104 die.
Starting with subtle changes, the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X looks to rock its 1,780 MHz boost clock. That’s 3 MHz faster than the regular GeForce RTX 3060. Less than 1% up, so nothing to brag about. However, increasing the boost clock speed slightly increases the FP32 performance from 12.7 TFLOPs to 12.8 TFLOPS. This is not something the average gamer would notice in a real-world scenario.

The GeForce RTX 3060 comes with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory running at 15 Gbps. The GeForce RTX 3060 delivers 360 GBps of memory bandwidth with access to a 192-bit memory interface. DT Digital’s Product list (opens in new tab) confirms that the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X will feature “blazing fast G6X memory for a superior user experience.” Unfortunately, the retailer didn’t provide memory speeds, and since GDDR6X frequencies range from 19 Gbps to 21 Gbps, we can only guess.
We believe the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X is likely to rock the 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory chips. In that case, the graphics card can deliver 456 GBps of memory throughput, a massive 27% improvement over the regular GeForce RTX 3060. Of course, the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X upgrade is the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X (36%), but the latter has a wider memory interface.
The GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X appears to retain the same 170W TDP as the other two variants. Graphics cards are fully accessible through expansion slots and a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. However, expect heavily overclocked models to come with 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connectors.
The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X has a suggested retail price similar to the original, while the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X price is yet to be announced. DT digital did not disclose the price of the Lenovo GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X (4X61E72194). However, the same graphics card has appeared at his two US retailers, but with prices all over the place.

If the regular GeForce RTX 3060 starts at $369, the GDDR6X model should be priced similarly, if not lower.
