GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X May Only Cost $10 More Than The Original
Rumors that Nvidia will refresh the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti appear to be true. UK retailer Scan Computers (via) video cards (opens in new tab)) features Nvidia’s unannounced GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with upgraded GDDR6X memory.
Nvidia launched the original GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in 2020, but the chipmaker plans to introduce a second variant earlier this year. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti leveraged his GA104 silicon while the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 used his GA103 silicon as the unofficial name suggests. It was a die swap on Nvidia’s part as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 retained exactly the same specs as the vanilla model. However, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X gets a major upgrade to its memory subsystem.
The interesting thing about the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is that Nvidia UK has yet to list it on their website. Instead, the chipmaker is still listing his regular GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Adding a GA104-based graphics card to your basket transforms it into a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X. Apparently, Scan Computers is the retailer selling the new variant. However, it’s not even on his website for the UK store. However, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X appears to be in stock and you can check it out.

It is unknown if the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X will use GA104 or GA103 silicon. The shopping basket shows the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X with a base clock of 1,410 MHz and a boost clock of 1,670 MHz. The base clock is the same as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. However, the boost clock is 5 MHz higher. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X’s FP32 performance is still maxed out at 16.2 TFLOPs, so it’s not a big deal.
The memory quota between GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X remains at 8GB. Both models are compliant with a 256-bit memory bus. However, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X has faster memory. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti supports 14 Gbps GDDR6 while the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X features 19 Gbps GDDR6X. The extra firepower pushes the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X’s memory bandwidth to 608 GBps, a massive 36% improvement over the regular version.
The GeForce RTX 3060 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 are compliant with a 200W TDP, but the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X model seems to have better ratings. GDDR6X consumes less power per transferred bit compared to GDDR6. Nevertheless, the total power consumption is higher for his GDDR6X as it runs at a faster frequency.
Nvidia UK lists the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X for £369. This equates to $409. Even cheaper than some custom models. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is only $10 more than the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti’s $399 MSRP. It’s good that GDDR6X Premium only increased the price by 3%.
It’s interesting to see Nvidia launching a third variant of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti late in the game. Sure, Intel recently launched the Arc A770, but we already know that the Arc Alchemist graphics card poses no threat to his GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti got a fat memory upgrade, but magically he can’t keep up with the GeForce RTX 3070. This is due to his 21% his CUDA isolation between the two and even GDDR6X memory can’t close that performance gap hence the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X Nvidia ditching Ampere stock It may be just a method. Now that the cryptocurrency mining fiasco is over, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 series is starting to climb the Steam charts. What better way to maintain this momentum than to bring another model to market?
