GeForce RTX 4090 Blower GPU Blows Hot and Loud
Topping our list of the best graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 4090 is a 450W graphics card. Given the latter, it doesn’t seem like a good idea to slam a blower into Ada Lovelace’s flagship. But it looks like one brave graphics card vendor has gone ahead and done just that, with a Redditor providing us with our first review of his GeForce RTX 4090 with blower cooler.
The mysterious GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card uses a dual-slot design with a blower-style cooling system. Aside from the GeForce RTX logo and its model name, the graphics card has no logo to give any clue as to the manufacturer. However, an interesting piece of Morse code has been translated into an “AI edition” that hints at the reasoning behind the blower’s design. Nvidia is a graphics card sub-vendor, according to GPU-Z screenshots. However, the GeForce RTX 4090 looks almost identical to the Manli Geforce RTX 4090 blower graphics card that came out a few months ago.
the owner is reddit thread (opens in new tab) He said he bought a Japanese GeForce RTX 4090 from an unmentioned vendor for $2,675 worth. The graphics card arrived in a discreet white box with no marketing or branding. There was nothing in the box except some foam to hold the graphics card in place and a triple 8-pin to his 12VHPWR adapter. There was no instruction manual or warranty card.
The GeForce RTX 4090 Blower has the same specs as Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition. The power limit is fixed at 450W. Nevertheless, Redditor managed to add 1,800 MHz to the memory. Performance doesn’t seem to be compromised despite relying on a blower cooler. Benchmarks showed the graphics card’s performance to be within margins of other his GeForce RTX 4090 models.
Under heavy workload, the GeForce RTX 4090 sounds like a jet engine. According to the owner, the cooling fan can go up to a whopping 5,200 RPM. The default fan curve reaches a GPU temperature of 78 degrees Celsius (C) and scales memory to 96 degrees Celsius. With a custom more aggressive fan curve, the GPU temperature drops to 67 degrees Celsius and the memory runs comfortably around 88 degrees Celsius.
In addition to avid gamers, Nvidia positions the GeForce RTX x090 tier SKUs for creators and researchers. However, the chipmaker isn’t very fond of manufacturers putting out blower-type models, as they cannibalize his A-series models for brands that have replaced the Quadro lineup.
For example, some system integrators preferred using the GeForce RTX 3090 blower graphics card in their server products over Nvidia’s more expensive A-series products such as the A100. We didn’t get an official statement from Nvidia and its partner declined to comment on why, but the GeForce RTX 3090 Blower graphics card has magically disappeared without a trace.
Unlike the typical GeForce RTX 4090 in a 3.5-slot design (which sometimes crosses over to the 4-slot domain), this blower variant only takes up two slots. This design allows the GeForce RTX 4090 to fit in a very compact case, allowing professional users to install multiple (up to four in some cases) graphics cards in one system.
Plus, given the GeForce RTX 4090 specs and a massive 24 GB VRAM with ECC support, it’s a graphics card capable of handling specialized workloads like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning. The GeForce RTX 4090 is especially A series for the poor, so to speak.
We didn’t see any GeForce RTX 4090 blower graphics card announcements at all. hardware leakerSo perhaps Nvidia is still against the idea of vendors releasing blower versions of their flagship GeForce RTX gaming products, which could explain why the GeForce RTX 4090 on the Reddit thread is unbranded.
