Guerrilla Collective Showcase 2023: Games to Watch

Have a fun-filled summer of gaming, everyone! Today we kicked off a busy week of announcements with the Guerrilla Collective Showcase. The Guerrilla Collective Showcase is an annual celebration of upcoming indie games packed with new trailers and gameplay.Look, there was lots of games It was shown at today’s show, and I recommend going to see the entire show if you get the chance. But for now, we’ve picked a few absolute favorites to highlight – check these out, and check them all out:

super space club

After watching the Super Space Club release day trailer, I’m sure you felt your stress level drop by at least 40%. It’s a colorful arcade space shooter in which you control a tiny triangle of spaceships flying around the screen, whistling meteors and other enemies. But what I love most about this piece is his lo-fi soundtrack by Fat Bard, which gives the whole thing an authentic, fantastical, cold, spacey feel. It’s Pure Atmosphere, coming to PC and Xbox this August 4th.

anton blast

I candidly admit that I’ve had my eye on Antonblast for some time, mostly due to the clear inspiration I took from one of my favorite GBA classics, Warioland 4. And everything from the visuals to the sound to the shattering feel of Anton’s attacks is necessary. It took me back to my childhood playing that game. It’s a decidedly loving throwback, right down to the feeling of collecting coins and breaking blocks, but it’s given a twist with his 2.5D elements that see Anton move between different layers of backgrounds. Antonblast appears on his PC and Switch. No release date yet, but a new demo is available on the game’s official website.

sacrificer

What I learned from this showcase is that I am a good musical sap and SacriFire gave me the name “Moi Sakuraba”. A famous composer for games like Golden Sun, Baten Kaitos, and Dark Souls, he’s also on board with his SacriFire, and his intense score is showcased in this new trailer. It perfectly complements his style and fast-paced RPG elements. . SacriFire features real-time combat, crafting, puzzles, and all the good stuff you’d expect from a meaty RPG, combined with a “morally complex” story that takes place in two different worlds. Coming to PC and consoles at a later date.

Lake – Season’s Greetings

I fell in love with this Lake when it came out in 2021. This is the fascinating story of a woman named Meredith who takes a temporary post as a postman in her small mountain hometown of Providence Her Oaks. It deals with some life matters. I wasn’t expecting DLC to come in a slow-paced, gentle little delivery adventure, but today’s surprise announcement makes me want to revisit Providence Oaks. Season’s Greetings is the prequel to Meredith’s postman father, and yes, it’s set on a snowy Christmas. Season’s Greetings will be released this holiday season. I highly recommend playing Lake’s main story while you wait.

Lil Guardsman

Look, the game Papers, Please was an incredibly serious work of art. But I’m surprised it took this long for someone to take this concept and do it in a decidedly stupid way. Lil Guardsman, surprisingly, tells the story of a guard in a medieval town named Lil who decides whether to allow or deny (or send them straight to prison) those who try to enter the city. is needed. But the people who come through the gates…a true tapestry of the rich. Some of them even try to smuggle illegal goods or participate in Capital-C Crimes. Some people look shady but are actually ordinary citizens. It’s up to you how you balance work expectations with rebellious desires.

horror world

Described as a bit of a love letter to Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft, World of Horror certainly seems to fill that role. It’s a point-and-click adventure with survival, roguelite, and RPG elements set in a world haunted by the Old Gods. World of Horror has been stuck in Early Access for a while, so check it out now if you want, or wait for the full release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC on October 19th this year. You can also

Europa

Not surprisingly, Europa takes place on Jupiter’s moon Europa, a lush paradise begging to be explored in this game. The trailer we saw today was full of small, eye-catching moments where the main character, the android Gee, glides, climbs, and stumbles through a mysterious world. Europa seems to be very focused on movement and meditative play, with the ruins, landmarks, and flowing grasses that cover the globe giving it a Ghibli feel. It will be released for PC later this year.
