Hogwarts Legacy Discussion Banned From ResetEra Forum Site Over J.K. Rowling Controversy
Discussion of Hogwarts’ legacy is prohibited on the popular forum website ResetEra. This is due to the controversy surrounding Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
As reported by PC gamerReleased by ResetEra General Manager B-Dubs statement From the moderation team banning all mention of the Harry Potter universe video game on the platform.
ResetEra previously prohibited promotional posts about games (such as new trailers and announcements), but now they’ve expanded this to include any discussion.
“The mod team has decided to extend its previous ban on promotion of the Hogwarts game itself,” the statement read. “Nothing [off topic chat] No discussion about this game. “
Rowling has shared her transphobic views on social media, endorsed anti-trans researcher Maya Forstater, and written essays containing hurtful remarks and unsubstantiated claims about transgender people. (these were later debunked by experts).
“After an ongoing internal discussion, we began to outline the issues Rowling raised and the game of issues each time. Because of her position as a sensitive individual, she actively advocates for laws that harm trans people,” the statement said.
Warner Bros. Games has clarified that Rowling is “not directly involved” in Hogwarts Legacy, and the game itself (which allows players to create their own characters and attend a school of witches and wizards) will not be transgender. It will reportedly allow character creation.
