How to Find a BitLocker Key and Recover Files from Encrypted Drives
Microsoft’s BitLocker encryption built into Windows is enabled by default on many PCs and serves a good purpose. If someone steals your laptop, yanks out the SSD, and tries to read data from it, you’re out of luck.
However, what happens when I try to read my SSD? This happened to me recently when my wife’s laptop died suddenly. I took out my wife’s drive, put it in her one of her best SSD enclosures, and plugged it into her PC in action. Instead of showing a bunch of folders in File Explorer, I got a prompt for her BitLocker key for the drive.
How to get a BitLocker key
My wife didn’t write down the BitLocker key. But luckily she was able to get the key. Method is as follows.
1. invite https://account.microsoft.com/devices (opens in new tab),
2. login With your Microsoft account when prompted.
3. Click “See Details” under the device name of the storage you want to access
Four. Click Manage Recovery Keys.
Five. Select and copy recovery key.
6. Paste your recovery key Go to the BitLocker dialog box and [ロック解除]Click.
File Manager will open with full access to the drive. If you can’t recover your BitLocker key using your Microsoft account, you may be using a computer from your organization. In that case, you should contact his IT support at work or school for help.
If your BitLocker recovery key is not in your Microsoft account and you are not using your organization’s PC, you may not be able to recover your key.
