With its (almost) consistent excellence, innovation, and longevity, Resident Evil games have been crowned kings of Survival of Horror. Since Capcom debuted his world of mutants and mercenaries in 1996, Resident Evil has been on his more than 20 consoles, his games, six movies, and most recently his two Netflix series, a novel, a comic book, and more. He even grew his multimedia franchise into a stage play.
Given the amount of content it contains, it can be an exciting franchise to explore, but for the same reasons it can be an equally difficult series to approach. Focusing on only the most narratively significant and accessible Resident Evil games, it takes the complexity out of the way by presenting two ways to play in sequence.

How many Resident Evil games are there?

Chris Redfield, one of the main characters from the original game, returns as the second playable character in Code Veronica. Chris is searching for his brother, as is Claire, and a search for the series’ nemesis, Albert, has resulted in a meeting with Wesker.

There, Leon encounters a cult and explores the relationship between that cult and the mind control parasite. The story that unfolds interweaves the stories of two of his characters from Resident Evil’s past, Albury Wesker and Ada Wong.

7. Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil Revelations Set between RE 4 and 5 events. It explores another outcome of Umbrella’s bioweapon development and introduces players to his Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA).
Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield are now BSAA agents and Jill is the star of the game. The duo head to the Mediterranean to combat the use of the T-Abyss, a new variant of the T-Virus.
8. Resident Evil 5

Bonus: Shadows of Rose DLC
Arriving right after The Village’s post-credits scene (16 years after The Village’s main storyline), Shadows of Rose pushes Resident Evil’s timeline further than any game before it. Assuming the events of The Village take place in 2021, Shadows of Rose brings the franchise into his 2037 near future.
In the 3-4 hour DLC, Ethan’s daughter Rose is the protagonist as she seeks to rid herself of the unwanted powers she inherited from her father.
