Hyundai and LG Plan $4.3 Billion Battery Plant in Georgia

Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solutions announced Thursday plans to build a $4.3 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Georgia. It will be a new clean energy facility in the state.

The project is expected to create 3,000 new jobs in southeastern Georgia by the end of 2025. It is the second battery manufacturing plant Hyundai is developing in the state, using subsidies from the Inflation Act to open the new facility. In December, Hyundai announced that it had partnered with South Korean electric vehicle battery developer SK On to build a plant in Bartow County.

“The Hyundai Motor Group is focusing on electrification to secure a leadership position in the global automotive industry,” said Jehoon Chang, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor. in the statement.

The facility is planned in Bryan County, Georgia, near Hyundai Motor Group’s Metaplant America, which is under construction, according to the company. The Metaplant facility will produce electric vehicles for Hyundai, Genesis and Kia.

Senator John Ossoff, a Democrat, said in an interview that incentives for clean energy production in the Control Inflation Act made the plant possible.

“This is another big win for Georgia,” he said.

In April, Ossoff led a trade mission to South Korea and met with senior officials from both companies.

The announcement follows Hanwha Q CELLS’ decision in January to use federal climate and tax incentives to expand operations to a $2.5 billion solar panel and components manufacturing facility in Georgia. is.
