Intel’s Raja Koduri Shrugs Off Rumors of Arc Demise
The popular TechTuber released an explosive vlog over the weekend, claiming simply that “Intel Arc is over”, with thumbnails showing Arc graphics cards sinking like the Titanic. So far Arc hasn’t cracked the list for the best graphics cards, but it’s only on the bottom end.Today, his EVP and GM of Intel Corporation’s Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics (AXG) group Raja Koduri, who is responded Intel has agreed to the idea of shrugging off development efforts for Arc graphics cards.
The video in question is a video titled “Moore’s Law is Dead (MLID)”.Intel’s Xe Odyssey Is Over: Discrete Arcs Effectively CanceledThe speculation has a “source” and the difficulties Intel faced with the launch of the Arc Alchemist graphics card are well known, but let’s just say MLID. no best performanceLet’s not forget his breakout video claiming the RX 5700 XT will launch for $249 while offering the performance of the RTX 2080.
The video contains four that are purported to be direct quotes from the MLID source, but a quick glance at the lines reveals some degree of hedging. Words and phrases like “effectively”, “not very optimistic”, “from what I see” in the title of the video. Sources 3 and 4, however, look clearer.
MLID ends the video by quoting the following report: tom’s hardwareIntel CEO Pat Gelsinger says the company will likely exit more businesses while trying to focus on its core competencies. Intel, for example, recently started shrinking Optane memory, but it has areas much further away from its core business than discrete graphics. Additionally, neither the public nor investors have been given any hint that an Arc graphics card might be on the cutting board.
Rajah and the Lost Ark?
Earlier today, Koduri was promoting its upcoming release. Ark A770 Pictured graphics card from Intel’s Toronto Validation Lab. An enterprising tweeter asked about hot gossip about the demise of Arc and got a pretty complete answer.
We are also 🤷♂️ about these rumors. They don’t help the teams that work so hard to get these to market, they don’t help the PC graphics community. We were going to overcome it, but we persisted…September 12, 2022
Rajah says he doesn’t know how or why these rumors started circulating. “But we persisted.”
Koduri didn’t categorically deny that they were ending development of their discrete Arc graphics card, but it’s very likely they don’t want to engage the rumor spreader in a direct denial. Despite the eye-popping headlines, all the hedging of MLID Vlogs makes it tempting to classify Arc’s rumored demise as a teapot storm for the time being.
All indications are that Intel will soon announce the availability of Arc A770, A750 and A580 desktop graphics cards, joining the already reviewed Arc A380 (with a sample we got from China). Driver updates continue to come at a fast pace and have resolved some issues we encountered during testing (such as the Acer XB280HK 4K display only working at 640×480 in Windows).
Price and performance have a lot to do with Arc GPU ratings.of ASRock Arc A380 Challenger (opens in new tab) Probably because a curious tech wanted one for review, and no doubt its aggressive pricing helped. , when the high-performance Arc GPU scores significantly higher on the GPU benchmark tier, combined with similarly aggressive pricing and improved drivers, it’s too early to claim that this ship has sailed.
