On this episode of SlateCast, Akiba speaks with BTSE CEO Henry Liu to discuss liquidity, the crypto market, and the catalysts to watch out for in a bear market. The interview was recorded in early November before he FTX collapsed.
BTSE Exchange Ecosystem
BTSE is a new exchange with a bonded order book between trading pairs to aid liquidity and improve security. We also provide B2B services to other smaller exchanges to support liquidity and technical infrastructure.
Small trading pairs on cryptocurrency exchanges have become an attack vector for some hackers, like the 3commas hack earlier this year. Composite order books eliminate this vulnerability while improving the user experience for traders by allowing them to trade in local currencies.
Advanced order matching tools like the one used by BTSE will arguably also allow for greater visibility of assets held on exchanges, given the revelations that have occurred in 2022.
next bull run
When asked what kind of catalyst could push cryptocurrencies back into a bull market, Henry said that the need for market liquidity meant policy changes, lower inflation, and more before a bull market resurfaced. , and emphasized the need to establish interest rates. Henry argued that it would take a “perfect stormy event” to kick-start the market.
Regarding Bitcoin’s ability to survive the first recession into the next halving, Henry commented that the halving was “just a wake-up call for some,” and the impact on the market is likely due to the actual shortage. I said it will only happen if it comes true.
The CEO of BTSE also wants Bitcoin to be decoupled from traditional markets before the next halving to allow for more exciting trading within the cryptocurrency industry. He also commented that the post-merger Ethereum has “potential” to lead the market in “ESG angles,” but that “it will be years before anything like this works.” did.
“The talent pool of Ethereum developers is the best in the field…I couldn’t ask for better.”
Henry also said that Ethereum “has all the ingredients it needs to be successful” in the future and looks forward to seeing if it can take a leading position in the industry.
