LG’s 49-inch UltraGear 49GR85DC is Now Shipping With 240Hz DQHD Panel
Enthusiasts looking for a superwide display to enjoy an immersive gaming experience have a new choice with LG’s new 49-inch. Ultra Gear 49GR85DC. The company announced today that the 49GR85DC is shipping in the US and will arrive in Europe later this month. Customers in Asia will have to wait until “later this year” to see the giant monitor.
With a 32:9 aspect ratio, the 49GR85DC is equivalent to two 16:9 2560 x 1440 displays side by side, giving an effective resolution of 5120 x 1440 (DQHD). Additionally, this monitor features a 1000R tight curvature and VA panel. As you can imagine, with a VA panel, the contrast ratio far exceeds that of a traditional IPS panel, reaching 3,000:1. The 49GR85DC is no less bright, with a typical brightness of 450 nits. However, HDR can push this up to 1,000 nits (the monitor is DisplayHDR 1000 certified).
The 49GR85DC boasts a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz and a response time of 1ms. Of course, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync compliance are also included here. Given that this is a gaming monitor, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he has RGB elements on either side of the I/O pod that protrudes from the back. In terms of I/O, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port and two USB 3.0 Type-A ports. Interestingly, LG chose not to include his USB-C connection or KVM switch with this DQHD monitor. However, it does have picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture support and a 3.5 mm headphone jack to support DTS:S headsets.
The 49GR85DC is probably most often compared to the Samsung Odyssey G9. The two monitors are pretty close in terms of specs (resolution, refresh rate, 1000R curve, 1000 nits max brightness), but LG has the edge on price. The Odyssey G9 is priced at $1,499.
