Life-Size LEGO Intel Arc Graphics Card Project Revealed
This week, a live-streamed broadcast on the Intel Insider Community Discord channel featured a project using Intel Arc graphics cards and LEGO.Show recordings are now available on TwitchIntroducing Zach Hill, Director of Technology Marketing at Ark Graphics and Lego fan. Over the past six months, Mr. Hill has spent his spare time using the vast library of his LEGO bricks available in software to create an Intel Arc A750 graphics model of his 1:1 or life-size model of his card. has been working on creating
This project aims to create as close a replica of the A750 as possible using available LEGO bricks. For this purpose Hill uses his BrickLink Studio. This is a free software package (owned by LEGO Group) that enables his 3D building and rendering of projects using the full range of LEGO blocks still in production. According to Hill’s estimate, the project is 80% complete for him, as shown in the photos throughout this article. Watch this video to see and hear areas of the project that Hill still thinks need attention. However, he one of the obvious non-LEGO issues is that the sticker needs to be changed from Arc A770 to A750.
Hill and regular host Bob Duffy discussed whether a full-scale graphics card could have LEDs and RGB. The short answer to this question is that there are some LEGO lighting kits available (e.g. previously released with the LEGO Blacksmith and Lighthouse kit), but you can make your graphics card model 1:1 size. So I really couldn’t afford it. include them. This was also part of the reason Hill targeted his A750 for his LEGO design project. No LEDs are needed to make the A750 realistic, just a few of his LEGO bricks with silver accents.
Non-Lego fans can learn a lot about these creative building blocks by watching the video. Some of the ones we picked up included new acronym pairs. AFOL (Adult Fans Of Lego), SNOT (Studs Not On Top). The Arc A750 design uses quite a lot of bricks that are SNOT.
After the project was completed, there seemed a lot of uncertainty on the topic of making these LEGO Intel Arc A750 graphics cards widely available. It was emphasized that lego idea set (opens in new tab) Programs can mass-produce official kits with 10,000 votes in favor. But Hill didn’t seem enthusiastic about the idea. This is probably because the project is not yet finished to his satisfaction. Also, the availability of BrickLink Studio designs seems to have steered those interested in the future possibility of users sourcing/buying their own blocks using the catalog associated with the model.
If someone built this project in its current state, Hill believes it would cost about $120 more for the 500 to 6,000 bricks needed. That’s almost half the price of a working Intel Arc A750 GPU.
