Lord of the Rings Online Isn’t Going Anywhere Despite Amazon Launching Their Own MMO

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings MMO isn’t scaring Lord of the Rings Online. The developers of long-running MMOs have been adamantly opposed to their competitors’ announcements.

“[Lord of the Rings Online] won’t go away,” admitted developer Standing Stone. forum post. “LOTRO are like long-lived ents, elves and dwarves. The road goes on and on…”

Lord of the Rings Online launched in 2007 and has a strong following. A new MMO is coming from Amazon. It’s still in the early stages of development, but promises to give players a new perspective on Middle-earth.

“Bringing new interpretations of The Lord of the Rings to our players has been a long-standing aspiration of our team. Middle-earth Enterprises has entrusted us with this iconic world. We are honored and grateful,” said Amazon Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann. .

Hartman also named the 17-year-old Lord of the Rings Online, saying that while “it wasn’t a bad game,” the new MMO would be “very different” from its predecessor. He also confirmed that this is a completely new concept and not a continuation of the earlier Lord of the Rings games, which were canceled in 2021.

“It’s completely new,” he said. “The old project wasn’t that long [in] development. It wasn’t that he was a three-year project, it was a fairly small team working on a specific part of the game, but it wasn’t a full-fledged production. ”

IGN’s review of The Lord of the Rings Online rated it 8/10 and stated: We’ll have to wait and see for a truly new kind of MMO, but until then, I’m glad we have this immersive game. ”
