M.2 2230 SSD Brings Big Performance

Corsair introduced the first-ever SSD in the M.2-2230 form factor, targeting ultra-compact systems such as Valve’s Steam Deck and Microsoft’s Surface Pro 8 and 9. The MP600 Mini drive offers 1 TB of storage space and powerful performance in a small package.

Corsair’s MP600 mini Based on Phison’s E21T controller coupled with 3D TLC NAND memory (according to tom’s hardware) with sequential read/write speeds up to 4,800 MB/s and random read/write IOPS up to 850K/1.1M. The SSD consumes about 4.3W on average and comes with a simple graphene heatspreader, making it compatible with the vast majority of systems.

Corsair’s MP600 Mini uses a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, making it a powerhouse in most modern laptops and hybrid PCs. However, be aware that as far as Valve’s Steam Deck is concerned, it uses a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface, so the MP600 Mini can’t quite stretch its legs in terms of thru points.

The market for commercial M2.2230 SSDs has traditionally been small due to the limited use of the drives in user-upgradeable machines. However, the recent launch of the Steam Deck in particular has significantly increased the demand for these SSDs (high performance drives especially suitable for game consoles). Corsair’s MP600 Mini is therefore a welcome addition to the field.

Corsair now sells the MP600 Mini directly. $110may seem expensive for a 1 TB drive, but bearing in mind we’re dealing with a significantly faster model that comes in the M.2-2230 form factor (a rare combination), the price is similar. Matches the drive.
