Magic: The Gathering’s Most Sought After Card Sells For Record $540,000

Perhaps the most popular card in Magic: The Gathering, the Black Lotus sold for a record-breaking $540,000 at a recent auction.

As reported by polygon, the Black Lotus is beating its own record every time it comes up for auction. In 2019 Black Lotus sold on his eBay for $166,000 and two years later in 2021 he was bought for $511,100. More than three times the price.At a recent auction PWCC MarketplaceBlack Lotus cements its position as the most expensive Magic: The Gathering card ever sold.

First printed in 1993, The Black Lotus is considered one of the “Power Nine”, a limited set of MTG cards banned from competitive play due to their powerful abilities. For Black Lotus, he can generate 3 mana of any color. freeallowing you to play powerful cards and spells early in the game.

Wizards of the Coast sold some out-of-print cards (though not legal in tournaments) last year, despite claiming they would never reprint these broken cards so as not to devalue them.
