Marathon: Bungie Hid a Ton of Secrets in Reveal Trailer, Including a Mini Video Documentary

Bungie has shared a new video documentary about Marathon, a newly announced sci-fi PvP extraction shooter.

Announced at yesterday’s PlayStation Showcase, the new Marathon is the first in the series since 1996. The game focuses on his PvP and does not have a single-player his campaign, but respects the mythology and story of the original Marathon game.

We already know more about the upcoming shooter thanks to a six-and-a-half-minute video Bungie posted after a fan quickly cracked one of the developer’s famous ARG (alternate reality game) puzzles. I’m here.

Before we get into the scavenger hunt Bungie fans went on to find ViDoc yesterday, let’s talk about the content of the video itself.

In Marathon, you, as a runner, explore the hostile world of Tau Cetus, searching for artifacts and weapons. Bungie showed off her art for the Runner concept, describing Runner as a combination of fashion, sci-fi, and cyberpunk.

According to Bungie, players will be part of a Marathon story that unfolds throughout the season. For example, one extraction team might find an alien his key to unlock a new zone. It is then up to those players to find a way to unlock the zone for other players.

Marathon will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with full cross-play and cross-progression. No release date has been given, but Bungie said it’s heading into alpha. The team plans to go into darkness for a while to work on the game, and has stated that we’ll see gameplay next time Marathon comes out.

Bungie Fans Unlock Marathon ViDoc Following Breadcrumb Trail

Yesterday’s reveal trailer revealed that Bungie was hiding a ton of secrets, including a puzzle where Bungie developers posted cryptic images on social media. The community tracked down all 12 secret images of him and superimposed them, revealing a series of dots.

Thanks to someone’s tip, A cleverly hidden marathon Twitter account, the community discovered that this is a binary sequence that needs to be run through a punchcard decoder. This led the puzzlers to a stream where he needed 7,777 viewers to unlock the full ViDoc.
