Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update Lets You Pick Which Items Appear in Races

A new free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe brings custom mayhem to racing.new Custom item option, players can also designate items that appear in the game, or assign specific items to each team in team races in battle. This option is available in his offline VS races and certain online modes.

A custom item option allows for even more mayhem in the race, allowing players to randomly select power-ups that appear in boxes. Items can also be turned off entirely if you’re looking for a purely driving-based mode.

Imagine a game where the only items available are Bullet Bills. Or red shell only. Or bring a new level of suffering with the All Blue Shell race.

This new feature allows players extensive customization in their races, opening up a myriad of new gameplay avenues. Hate the lightning powerup and want to see it banished? Can’t stand getting coins as item box prizes instead of shells and mushrooms? Custom item options can help.

New updates are available now for free. It comes with the launch of Premium Booster Course Pass Wave 3, which adds 8 new tracks to the game. This pass includes Merry Mountain, Peach Gardens, Maple Treeway, Rainbow Road, Rock Rock Mountain, Boo Lake, Berlin Byway and London Loop.

The 8 tracks are only available as part of the $24.99 booster course pass and are not available as individual add-ons. However, purchasing the DLC will grant users 16 previously released courses and an additional 24 courses in 2023. With all six waves releasing by the end of his 2023, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will include more than half of the courses released so far.
