Marvel World of Heroes, a New AR Game From Niantic, Announced

Niantic is transforming the Marvel Universe into augmented reality with new mobile game World of Heroes coming in 2023.

Niantic specializes in augmented reality games such as Pokémon Go, where players use their mobile phones to interact with the real world. Gameplay details are sparse, but it looks like players will be able to collect a variety of Marvel superpowers, including Doctor Strange’s magic, Cyclops’ laser eyes, and Thor’s Mjolnir.

Check out the trailer below.

According to a press release, Marvel World of Heroes will allow players to create their own superhero identity and team up with Marvel characters in the real world.

World of Heroes is set to release next year, and players can pre-register now. The trailer ends in a park full of players blasting each other’s abilities, so there’s probably some sort of social co-op element as well.

Niantic is still chasing the success of Pokemon Go, working with various IPs to enable the AR ecosystem. Beyond Pokemon, Niantic is also developing games about Harry Potter, Pikmin, and Transformers, and his latest partnership is with Marvel.
