Morgan Wallen Fends Off Metallica for a Seventh Week at No. 1

Country star Morgan Warren fended off Metallica’s challenge to stay at the top of the Billboard album chart for seven straight weeks with his latest streaming blockbuster, One Thing at a Time.

In its latest week, “One Sing at a Time” sold the equivalent of 166,000 copies in the United States, according to tracking service Luminate. That total was a composite incorporating both streams and old-school unit sales, with 202 million streams and 12,000 copies sold as complete packages. Since its release, “One Thing at a Time” has been streamed nearly 2 billion times in the US.

Warren has held onto the #1 spot for weeks by dodging challenges from new releases by alternative pop singer Melanie Martinez, rapper NF, and K-pop acts Jimin and Twice.

Metallica became Warren’s biggest threat with 72 Seasons, his first studio album in seven years. Starting at number two, worth 146,000 sales, including copies sold as 16 million streams and 134,000 complete albums. The album’s promotional campaign included his four-night residency on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” And the online Metallica Logo Generator lets you render fan-chosen text in the band’s signature lightning bolt font.

Also this week are SZA’s “SOS” at No. 3, Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” at No. 4, and Warren’s final album, “Dangerous: The Double Album,” at No. 5.
