Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Adds a Host of Returning Characters to its Roster

NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer for its upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, with the latest trailer confirming even more characters from the roster at launch.

The latest trailer spotlights Smoke and Rain, two characters with a long history in the Mortal Kombat series. It also revealed four new cameos of his fighters: Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion. As a quick refresher, the Cameo Fighters are another roster of Mortal his Kombat 1 characters who can assist the player during a match.

Smoke first appeared in Mortal Kombat 2 as a non-playable secret character and eventually made his official debut as a cyborg in Mortal Kombat 3. His first appearance as a human was in 2011’s Mortal His Kombat. He primarily specializes in speed and smoke-based abilities, and the trailer shows him striking an enemy with a dagger and performing another finishing attack in the smoke.

Rain, on the other hand, first appeared in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as a gag character meant to mislead players into thinking he was unlockable, and eventually made an actual appearance in the console version. It was later made playable in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and Mortal Kombat (2011). A demigod, Rain controls water and lightning, and the trailer shows him abusing Scorpion with his signature water-bending technique.

The rest of the trailer shows Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Smoke working together to infiltrate the premises, as well as a typical tragic death by Smoke. Apart from the new story trailer, NetherRealm Studios has released several new gameplay his videos including a high-level battle between Scorpion and Johnny Cage.

NetherRealm also provided new details about Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Kameo Kung Lao.

Mortal Kombat 1 was revealed in May at an earnings call held by Warner Bros. Discovery, NetheRealm’s parent company. The game is a sequel to 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11, but it also serves as a reboot, with Neteriam Studios previously stating that the game “introduces a reborn Mortal Kombat universe.” Shortly after its release, news surfaced that Amazon may have leaked his DLC Combat his pack, the first of the game, which includes characters like Quan Chi, Omniman, and Peacemaker.
