New Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Highlights Flight, Customization, and Murder

A new gameplay showcase highlights the many new features in Hogwarts Legacy. This includes flying around the castle, customizing the rooms you want, and killing others with your murderous curse.

The first part of the gameplay shows the flight range of both the Broomstick and the Hippogriff, which can be used to travel to other villages outside of Hogwarts and to locations where quests are available.

You can also see seasonal changes in this section. Later in the showcase, we’ll take a closer look at customizing the Necessary Room, a space that can be customized by gear, magical creatures, and summoning spells obtained through gameplay.

But the wildest part of the showcase for those with a keen awareness of the Harry Potter franchise would be the mid-segment where players travel to the Dark Arts Battle Arena. We’ll see how the player, a teenage child, instantly executes the killing curse of Avada Kedavra and straight up murders a man. The trailer continues with them using some combat spells to deal damage and eventually defeating (killing?) a number of other enemies, including a goblin labeled as a “loyalist warrior”. increase.

It’s clearly not uncommon for games to feature combat, or even have teenage protagonists who engage in it – many games do. It’s a bit of an odd move, given the game’s foundation in the book series, which focused most of its attention on school life and magical antics. Yes, combat is used as a last resort and the “Unforgivable Curse” is not allowed.

Given the heavy weight given in the book, it’s especially strange to see the killing curse used so casually – though it’s not unexpected. After past trailers It is revealed that the player can choose to use a literal torture curse on other students as well.

The Hogwarts legacy has already been controversial since its announcement due to ongoing transphobic comments by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. Avalanche has also stated that “she has the right to express her personal opinions,” and that games are based on her original universe and IP, and Rowling continues to earn royalties.

Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. It was recently postponed to April 4th on PS4 and Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch version will release on July 25th.
