Next Civilization Game Officially Announced by Firaxis

Firaxis Games has officially announced that a new Civilization game is in development at the studio.

Along with the announcement that former COO Heather Hazen would be the new studio head, Phyraxis did not confirm if it would be the seventh game in the mainline series or if it would be a spinoff.Civilization: Beyond Earth.

“Starting with the announcement that the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise, Firaxis, is in development, we are thrilled to have this opportunity to continue the studio’s storied legacy,” said Hazen.

“We are fortunate to be working with some of the best developers in the industry. We have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for millions of players around the world. Additionally, we will continue to support Marvel’s Midnight.” Suns will provide post-launch content and explore new creative projects for our team.”

Seven years after Civilization 6’s launch in 2016, fans have been patiently awaiting confirmation of the new entry. The studio has been working on XCOM’s other premier strategy franchise, Chimera Squad, since then, and recently tried something completely new. The aforementioned Marvel’s Midnight Sons.

No release date, mechanics, or other game details have been mentioned, so the announcement is still happening, so a new Civilization could still be a few years away, but Firaxis Games’ future plans. It seems to be the main focus.

However, the studio plans to do so without one of its main characters, as former creative director of the XCOM franchise and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Jake Solomon, has announced he is leaving Firaxis.

In a statement posted on Twitter (above), Solomon said he had nothing but positive feelings about his time spent in the studio and was only leaving to pursue his new passion.

“After 23 wonderful years, I am leaving Firaxis,” he said. “I am a big dreamer and have fulfilled two lifelong dreams of his making XCOM (and XCOM 2 and War of the Chosen) and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. is a child.”

His departure means that all three key figures behind the XCOM franchise have left Firaxis. As designer and director, Solomon was joined by producer Garth D’Angelis and art director Greg Felch.
