Seven years after the original Oxenfree debuted its radio-tuned, time-looping coming-of-age story, the sequel is finally here. At today’s Nintendo Indie World showcase, we finally learned that Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals will release on his July 12th.
Oxenfree 2 follows Riley, a character who did not appear in the original Oxenfree. Riley is an environmental researcher who has returned to Camena after noticing strange radio transmissions five years after the events of Oxenfree. Riley said he wasn’t part of Oxenfree’s storyline, but the 2021 game update will see him see a lot of references as the two will be tied together, or he’ll be part of his original teenage group. A new trailer for Oxenfree 2, released today, shows off several new elements, including a strange sloping house, strange supernatural beings, and a new walkie-talkie system to help characters communicate.
In fact, we saw a fair amount of Oxenfree 2 in our hands-on previews for 2021 and were optimistic about its expanded possibilities and sense of choice. It’s been a while since Oxenfree 2 was delayed from a 2021 release to this year as it added localized languages and made the game “really special”. and Oxenfree joined Netflix Games. Surprisingly, the sequel will not only be available on Netflix, but also on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, PC and mobile.
