Pixelated Clothes Let You Dress Like an NFT, Start at $590 | Tom’s Hardware
Luxury fashion house Loewe has launched a new line of clothing and accessories that could appeal to the digital persuasion crowd.Loewe’s new SS23 collection aims to offer “real-world glitches” in pixel-heavy fashion (opens in new tab) It definitely catches double takes in the real world. Even more eye-catching than the fashionista’s visuals are the prices of these real-world digital goods, which range from $590 for t-shirts to his $3,400 for handbags.
According to Loewe, “the digital world is decontextualized” with its latest line. The Digital Physical Collection includes a $2,500 pixelated hoodie, $2,500 pixelated pants, $1,850 pixelated top, and $3,400 pixelated handbag.
The collection also includes (relatively) cheaper items such as a $1,450 pixelated denim jacket, a $790 pixelated denim skirt, and a $990 pixelated jeans. The cheapest is a white graphic t-shirt, at “just” $590. A complete outfit from the collection would easily cost him over $9,000. In addition, shoes and underwear must be procured.
Loewe doesn’t ignore packages either. Customers will receive the SS23 line of products in a limited edition pixel print bag (while supplies last).
Gamers are used to seeing pixelated characters and items in games, especially retro games and emulated classic titles. Pixelated visuals are also making a comeback in style a few years ago when we saw a wave of stylized flat/2D titles. This is a trend that has caused gamers to demand sharper integer scaling in their graphics drivers.
The pixelated effects of Loewe’s new SS23 collection resemble those seen in classic 3D titles from the early 2000s, but the edge enhancements give it a Borderlands-style feel.
In 2023, graphics similar to the Loewe SS23 collection will be mostly seen by users running demanding modern titles on iGPUs in “potato mode”. Similar graphics may also appear if his VRAM on the GPU is low. This is because objects and scenes are rendered with low-resolution (or no) textures, which can result in blurry or pixelated visuals.
This isn’t the first time the Pixel has hit the runway. Japanese designer Kunihiko Morinaga specifically featured pixels in his FW11 collection for 2011. Unrelageand other designers such as Burberry (opens in new tab) and Akris I have a pixelated print in my current collection.
