PlayStation 5 Boasts Best Quarter Yet After Huge Increase in Sales

Sony’s video game division is experiencing its best quarter since the launch of the PlayStation 5, boasting significant increases in console sales and first-party software.

as revealed in Sony’s Q3 2022 financial results, PS5 had its best selling quarter ever, with 7.1 million consoles sold in the three months ending December 31, 2022. The PS5’s success prompted Sony to increase its annual sales target from 18 million to 19 million units.

Sony’s Game & Network Services segment posted revenue of ¥1,246.5 billion, up 53% year-on-year, and operating profit of ¥116.0 billion, up 25% year-on-year. Not only is this the best quarter of the year, but it’s also the best quarterly result of the PS5’s entire lifespan.

PlayStation Plus subscribers increased slightly from 45.5 million to 46.6 million. While he hasn’t returned to his peak user count of 48 million, the service’s monthly active users have increased to 112 million. It was a strong quarter for PlayStation. But while supply issues don’t seem to prevent the console from achieving the same numbers as its predecessor, by this point in its lifecycle, the PlayStation 4’s shipments have fallen below him. 38 million units.
