PlayStation 5 US Shipments Are Up 400% From Last Year
Sony is producing far more PlayStation 5 consoles than it did last year, with new numbers showing a 400% year-over-year increase in shipments to the US.
David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, shared a statistic on Twitter showing a spike in the number of units shipped to the US in September (below).
Gibson said part of the increase was in preparation for the Nov. 9 launch of God of War: Ragnarok, but the increase in shipments was generally due to shipments to the United States during the holiday period. It bodes well for anyone looking to buy a PS5 at.

Sony’s next-generation console, like the entire tech industry, has suffered serious production problems since its release in 2020 caused by chip shortages and the Covid-19 chain reaction.
Interestingly, these shortages were estimated last year to last until September 2022, the exact month Sony spiked in PS5 shipments.
Despite these struggles, Sony has sold over 20 million PS5 consoles as of June 2022, 3.3 million below its original 2021 sales target, but the company plans to sell more than 20 million units in 2023. It announced that it expects to sell another 18 million units by March.
