PlayStation Tournaments Beta Coming Soon to PS5

PlayStation Tournaments are finally coming to PS5, with an open beta coming soon.

Debuting on PS4 in 2016, this feature lets you sign up for tournaments, compete, and win prizes. All integrated into the PS5 system itself.

“PlayStation tournaments are on-console competitions where players can compete against each other for prizes in PlayStation events, challenges, leaderboard competitions and more,” Sony revealed. Official blog post.

“The next generation of PlayStation competitive games will include new features and improvements to make it easier to find and participate in competitions.”

Sony will launch new PS5 PlayStation tournaments in open beta “within the next few weeks.”

Here’s what you can expect from this all-new experience:

  • Tournaments you can easily find: Sign up for new tournaments within PS5 Control Center and Game Hub. Simply press the PlayStation button while an eligible game is open to launch Control Center and jump into that tournament.
  • Seamless signup on console: You can easily register for tournaments within your PS5.
  • Reduced Tournament Time: A new tournament bracket size cap ensures that each tournament stays within reasonable limits. Traditionally, tournament sizes increase as more participants enter the event. However, this new feature creates multiple brackets per event when the limit is reached.
  • Higher Tournament Frequency: Tournaments will be available more frequently and more regularly, allowing players with different schedules to find time to compete.
  • All-new UI: PS5 PlayStation Tournaments features a new UI designed to give players quick and easy access to all the information they need. Even while playing a game, you can pull up the bracket directly from within Control Center.
  • Real-time match results and automatic reports: Match results are displayed and reported as soon as the bracket passes. No wait, no fuss. You can also check the overall bracket status at any time.
  • prize: Each tournament has prizes and some offer unique rewards. All eligible players, regardless of skill level, are eligible to win these prizes.

Clearly, Sony’s recent esports efforts have spilled over into the PS5 console infrastructure. The fact that it is easily accessible may even encourage more participation.
