Prusa Adds Brands to Right to Repair 3D Print Service
Prusa Research, famous for various 3D printers, announced today We work with big names in the PC and manufacturer industry to offer 3D printable replacement parts, upgrades and models via our online portal. Familiar names like Cooler Master, Raspberry Pi, Noctua and Framework Computer now offer models through this free service.
Printables, Prusa Research’s online portal, is similar to Thingiverse. Both of these are repositories/libraries of objects that the user can download and print on her best 3D printer. Additionally, Prusa and its new partners will offer replacement parts via a new brand portal. Here you can see brands offering a variety of 3D printable replacements, upgrades and consumables for their products. All models are provided free of charge. Brands will have verified badges and banners to distinguish them from community-created models. But this badge is not just for brands. Notable designers from the community have also received this award.
Our right to repair equipment has been a strong spirit in the PC and Maker communities, and for years that spirit has led to the use of 3D printers to print quick fixes. With access to 3D printable models, users no longer have to wait for their purchases to arrive. You can print the device and have it repaired. “We hope that within a few years it will become standard to release 3D printable models that accompany our products,” Prusa said. It will be a big plus for us and add value to the product itself.”
So what can you download and print?
Framework Computer’s DIY laptops are designed to be taken apart and upgraded, so they use a range of hot-swappable USB-C dongles. The mainboard is designed to be replaceable for future CPU upgrades, so you can easily remove it and put it into your desktop machine. But so far there have been no official cases. Framework Computers releases 3D printable case For mainboards that turn laptops into desktop PCs. Noctua’s Range of 3D Printable Objects Spacers and adapters for fans in that range are included. There is also a fan duct for the low profile NA-FD1. Now all that’s left is to find the right shade of brown PLA filament.
Makers are happy because industry favorites Adafruit and Raspberry Pi have released models for their popular projects. Adafruit has released a model For converting iPad into iBook, DIY MP3 player Walkperson, Raspberry Pi media server. raspberry pi has released a model of the Raspberry Pi Pico Iron Man Arc Reactor and a case of Pimoroni’s Plasma 2040.
