Raspberry Pi Still Hard to Get as Company Can’t Meet Demand
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, you’ll find that chip shortages are hitting every facet of the tech industry. Whether you’re an international manufacturer or a dedicated manufacturer, chip shortages are taking a toll on your business. Raspberry Pi is not immune to this.
With the last official update from April 2022, co-founder Eben Upton said: .
In a recent livestream, the venerable Raspberry Pi YouTuber Jeff Gearing We talked about the current Raspberry Pi supply, but in short, nothing changes. But I have a little more insight into the situation. Simply put, according to Geerling, this year will be no different.
Geerling contacted Upton for an update on the situation. Upton’s reaction is Blog post on April 4, 2022 is still valid. There are still supply constraints. Raspberry Pi can’t get enough components to mass produce Raspberry Pi.
Available supplies are prioritized for OEM/industrial customers. According to Upton, the reason for this is “to ensure that the companies that rely on the Raspberry Pi don’t fade away and die,” and there are many companies that have incorporated the Raspberry Pi into their products.
Later in Geerling’s stream, he says the Raspberry Pi is “ring-fencing” consumer retail inventory (I reached out to Eben Upton for further comment). It is produced monthly, not Raspberry Pi Pico. If you believe your Raspberry Pi 5 is the cause of the problem, we are sorry to report that it is not. We don’t yet know if we have working Pi 5 silicon, but we know through Geerling that we don’t have the capacity to produce more Raspberry Pis.
As an interesting move, the communication between Geerling and Upton is very useful if you’re an OEM or community member who absolutely needs a Raspberry Pi, for example for an education/scientific project (sadly for arcade cabinets and general projects). not). You can then email the Raspberry Pi to build your business case. But as we say, if your use case doesn’t matter, you won’t get a Pi this way.
At the end of the segment, Geerling repeats a message from the Raspberry Pi. No updated Supply his blog posts until he has something to say.
Finally, Geerling said: Geerling continues, “Much of the Raspberry Pi community is in the makerspace, and it’s hard to see those people having to choose a replacement.”
So where does this leave us?Consumers should continue to pay attention Repilocator Check out the latest stock levels and get ready to take a shot at the MSRP Pi. Otherwise, eBay and Amazon are flooded with Raspberry Pis. If you’ve won a Pi, check out our articles on how to set up a Raspberry Pi for the first time or how to set up a headless Pi.
You can also consider alternative boards. The Khadas VIM4 and LattePanda 3 Delta are both worthy alternatives, but they cost much more. If you want the Raspberry Pi form factor, consider the Asus Tinkerboard 2S. If you want Raspberry Pi hardware and not horsepower, consider the Raspberry Pi Pico W. For $6, you get GPIO, a dual-core CPU, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Provides enough power for most home projects.
