Realms of Ruin Announced, a New Warhammer RTS Set in the Age of Sigmar Universe

Frontier has announced Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, a new AAA real-time strategy game set in Games Workshop’s fantasy world. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Realms of Ruin features both a story-driven single-player campaign and PvP multiplayer modes, and supports 1v1 and 2v2 cross-platform matches. There are four playable factions, and a cinematic reveal trailer reveals his first two: Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz. For those unfamiliar with the lexicon of the Age of Sigmar world, it means humans with the power of lightning and cunning orcs.

If you’re a Warhammer fan, you’ll realize that this Stormcast vs. Ork setting is the basis for the Dawnbringer Crusade, the current Age of Sigmar storyline that began with the 2021 Dominion tabletop box set. I guess. And like its miniature version, the story of Realms of Ruin is also set within the harsh lands of ghouls, often called the Kingdom of Beasts. There, Stormcast leader Sigrun learned of a mysterious power that could protect Sigmar’s army from the Krul Boys. The story was co-written by Gavin Thorpe, one of Games Workshop’s veteran designers and Black Library writer.

So far, little is known about Realms of Ruin, other than a press release promise that it will be an RTS featuring “diverse mission types and modes.” The map features Arcane Conduits, control points that provide resources that must be contested to gain control. This feature, combined with small but highly detailed unit models and a camera that lets you zoom directly into the action, made Realms of Ruin the Age of Sigmar’s answer to his 2004 beloved Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. suggests that it may become

RTS games on consoles are generally a bit cumbersome, but Frontier believes they’ve solved the problem with DirectStep, a new interface designed to “enable tactical immediacy in the heat of battle” on controllers. I’m here. We haven’t seen the system in action yet, but the trailer promises “full gameplay reveal” in June, with a beta coming soon. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we take a closer look at it.

While waiting for first impressions of gameplay, here is a list of units confirmed so far for the first two factions.of game workshop website If you’re unfamiliar with warrior types, take a closer look at each warrior type. Interestingly, while most of the Kruelboy units are drawn directly from the Dominion box set miniatures, most of the Stormcast come from older models rather than modern Thunderstrike armored warriors.
