Research: 78% of all staked ETH is across 4 centralized providers; 74% of all blocks are OFAC compliant
Ethereum (ETH) staking on-chain data shows an estimated 78% of staked ETH is spread across four centralized providers.
Approximately 8-9 million ETH is currently staked with the following 4 providers:
- Lido – 4.5 million ETH stake
- Coinbase – 2 million ETH stake
- Kraken – 1.2 million ETH wagered
- Binance – Bet 1 Million ETH
At the time of writing, nearly 75% of all blocks generated by ETH are considered Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) compliant, and this number is increasing every week. In contrast, a total of about 15% of all blocks generated by ETH are still non-OFAC compliant, while the remaining 11% are “non-MEV-Boost” blocks.
Just one month ago, an estimated 51% of blocks were OFAC compliant. Compared to this current on-chain data, it shows a rapid shift in block censorship, with over 20% compliance in just one month.
Censorship reached another sad milestone: 51%
This means that if censorship validators stop proving uncensored blocks, they will eventually form a legitimate 100% censored chain. pic.twitter.com/JrYUjowLpt— Martin Koppelmann (@Koppelmann) October 14, 2022
Martin Köppelmann, co-founder of decentralized platform Gnosis, explained on October 14 that the direction towards 100% censorship of the Ethereum block is just one step away.
