Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries Is Available in Some Areas, But It’s Missing Two Major Characters

Some players in South Korea are reporting that they will get early access to Resident Evil 4’s Mercenary Mode remake, which is set to release tomorrow, April 7th. Unfortunately, some say the mod lacks important content at the moment.

A staple of Resident Evil games, Mercenary Mode is an arcade-style horde mode in which players battle waves of the Infected to compete for the highest score. While the original Resident Evil 4 allowed players to unlock mercenary mode upon completing the campaign, the remake takes a different strategy. Capcom announced Instead, the mode will debut tomorrow, April 7th.

Players have noticed that the version available to people in the aforementioned regions is missing Ada Wong and Albert Wesker as playable characters, both of whom were in the previous version of the mode and are remakes. This has led some to speculate that perhaps Capcom plans to offer the character as paid downloadable content.

This seems to confirm the reporting of microtransactions entering the mode. Players are starting to spotlight online stores in the form of ‘upgrade tickets’. This will allow players to progress through Mercenary Mode runs faster.

As a single-player game mode, this “pay-to-win” model may prove less contradictory than the one deployed in competitive multiplayer games, but the two main characters are The omission can be disappointing for some.
